Giant hogweed originates from the western Caucasus. It was introduced into Europe as an onrnamental plant. It has settled in the wild on many localities in the Netherlands. The plant juice can cause severe blisters on the human skin. Giant hogweed can form dense vegetations, repressing other plant species.
