Grasmus Sylvia communis

Sylviidae [familie]
Sylvia [genus] (16/4)
communis [soort]

Widely distributed over farmland and natural habitats, with highest densities in the coastal dunes. Hardly any change in breeding distribution since the 1970s, although numbers nowadays are much higher (130,000-150,000 bp in 1998-2000, compared to 50,000-75,000 at the end of the 1970s), since population recovered from losses caused by Sahelian drought. Locally, the species benefits from changes in vegetation as well, e.g. expansion of suitable habitat in the dunes. It is uncertain, however, whether recent population numbers equal pre-1968 levels.
