First breeding records in 1983 (undocumented) or 1985 (documentation kept secret). The species breeds annually since 1997. All records are confined to the extreme south of Limburg, showing the close links to reintroduction programmes in adjacent areas in Germany. The single breeding pair, nesting in a quarry, raised 4, 4 and 2 young, respectively, in 1998-2000. In 1999, two individuals were reported from a second site, but without firm breeding evidence.
