Rare. More common before 1950, no trend since. Identification of larvae confirms species identification on two localities. From other localities only adults are known, but habitats suggest that these also belong to M. myrmicae. Moist to wet open habitats on soil that contains at least some clay, like unimproved wet grassland, fens and wet heathland.
