Argynnis adippe was a very rare, irregular resident. The last population flew until 1976 in the neighbourhood of Stramp-roy, in the province of Limburg. Since 1990, only one butterfly has been seen. It occurred near sunny, woodland edges where violets (Viola spp.) were growing; these served as its larval foodplant. It flew in one generation from the end of June until mid-August and hibernated as an egg.
