Heliconiinae [subfamilie]
Argynnis [genus] (1/1)
paphia [soort]

Argynnis paphia used to be a resident. Although it has been extinct since 1980, vagrants are sighted each year. Mostly these concern just a few individuals, but in some years, such as 1992 and 1996, dozens of butterflies were seen. Species of Viola served as larval foodplant. The species flew in one generation from the middle of July until the end of August and hibernated as a young caterpillar. Its extinction is probably due to changes in forest management.
