Melanargia galathea is an irregular resident. During the last century, it established itself sporadically here, mostly in the south of the country. There were several temporary populations up to the 1930s, as well as some in the eighties and nineties, mostly in the province of Limburg. Vagrants are sighted each year, in total 30 individuals since 1990. Several species of grass serve as larval foodplant.
