Maniola jurtina is a common resident; it is by far the most numerous butterfly on the transects of the Dutch Monitoring Scheme. Its distribution is stable. It occurs in rough grassland where several species of grass are used as larval foodplant. The species flies in one generation from the end of June until mid-August; butterflies may live for about thirty days, the reason for the species' long flight period. It hibernates as a half-grown caterpillar.
