Aeshna mixta is very common in The Netherlands. It occurs in every part of the country and can be found at all types of standing water. It is unclear to what degree observed adults are autochthonous. The comparatively low number of reproduction records (relative to other Aeshna species) and the yearly increase in numbers at the end of summer, suggest a yearly influx of large numbers of animals from more eastern or southern areas.
