Libellula fulva is an uncommon species in The Netherlands. It is mainly found in fenlands and along abandoned shipping canals. It is more rarely found on meso- to oligotrophic lakes and marshes. In all localities there is a well-vegetated shore, almost always with reeds, which are the preferred perches for territorial males. The species has remained quite stable, but it has always been very local. It is regarded as susceptible in the Dutch Red list.
