A female collected in the 19th century near Arnhem is the only Dutch record of Epitheca bimaculata. In the last decades, the species has expanded in Germany and France and the nearest populations are now in Luxembourg, southern Belgium and the German Saarland. The province of Limburg therefore seems the most likely Dutch area for colonisation. Clear lakes with rich aquatic vegetation are regarded the most suitable places to keep a lookout for this species.
