The Great Green Bush-cricket is a common and widespread species, which is scarce only in some open polder areas in the northern and western parts of The Netherlands. It recently settled on the isle of Texel and in the IJsselmeer polders. T. viridissima lives in habitats with stout tall herbs (thistles etc.) and low bushes, or wood margins. It is a typical inhabitant of human influenced sites, along railways, roads, in towns, near farms, and one of the few insects which is frequently found in maize fields. In more natural habitats it lives in small numbers in dune-valleys, margins of heathlands and willow bush along rivers.
