The Grey Bush-cricket is the only Dutch orthopteran which is confined to the coastal dunes. It occurs throughout our dunes, with a remarkable gap from the islands Goeree and Voorne. The species is absent from the Dutch and German Wadden-Islands east of Ameland. One unconfirmed 19th century record from De Veluwe is tentatively regarded as a misidentification. In the dunes it occurs in tall grass (Calamagrostis, Ammophila) or small bushes. It is not declining, and still flourishes throughout our dunes. It has vanished, though, from some inland localities in Belgium, close to the Dutch border. In northern Germany it is confined to heathland (Lüneburger Heide); in Central-Europe it is often found on dry limestone habitats.
