The Field Grasshopper is the most widespread Orthopteran species in The Netherlands, which can be found almost everywhere. Although it is common, the population densities are mostly low; it is usually less abundant than such species as C. biguttulus or C. parallelus. It inhabits many different habitats such as road-verges, dunes, heathland, open spots in forest, dykes or even gardens in towns. In the polder areas it is confined to road-verges or sandy dykes.
