The Common Green Grasshopper is particularly common in the pleistocene part north of the river Rhine. In contrast it is scarce in the west and south of our country. In the central and northern parts it inhabits a score of open habitats, meadows, grassy heaths, road verges, wet meadows, but in the west and south it is almost confined to moist grasslands, wet heaths or fens, often in nature reserves. For its relative scarcity in the southern part of our country we have as yet no satisfactory explanation.
